Welcome to Third Grade Website February Newsletter Assalamu Alaikum Dear Parents, - Please check the Engrade website in a daily basis to know about your child's scores on tests, quizzes, class work and homework. I'm adding scores almost every day. Any missing homework is counted as Zero, and it affects your child's final grade. Please submit any missing homework as soon as possible, and let me know if you have any trouble checking your child's grades.
· Congratulations to all third graders for their great efforts and participation in our Annual Arabic and Islamic Studies Fair. · Congratulations to Saja for winning 2nd place on her topic "Love and Sincerity to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and Salma and Umbre for winning third place and their topic “Obedience to Parents".   - Congratulation to our School Spelling Bee Champion Umbre Khan for winning first place for the Spelling Bee. It was tough, but Umbre did a great job Masha’ Allah. Umbre'swinning word was asthmogenic.
 Here are some helpful ideas about the lessons we are learning during the month of February Insha’Allah. Math: We had covered chapter 11 "Measurement". Our test will be on Monday February 6th. Please review from the class worksheets and the homework packet in your child's folder. Then we are going to cover chapter 12 "Geometry". Insha'Allah the students will learn the following concepts: -
Introduce the identification of congruent, similar, or symmetrical figures. -
Build conceptual understanding of area, perimeter, and volume. -
Promote mastery of the calssificaiton of 2- and 3- dimentional figures. -
Apply geometry to real world situations. -
Develop problem solving skills. Science: We covered Chapter 4 (Work and Machines).Our Science test over chapter 4 will be on Tuesday February 7th. Students should review from their class worksheets and science textbook. Then we will learn Chapter 5 " Matter". Students will explore that matter si made up of particles called elements. Matter is measured using mass and volume, and can exist in different physical states. Social Studies: . we have covered Chapter 4:"An English Colony at Jamestown". Inshallah during this month, we will learn chapter 5 "A Spanish Mission in San Francisco". Students will learn that geography, natural resources, and climate helped the San francisco area grow into a thriving community of many cultures, including Spanish and Mexican, Chinese and Japanese, Irish and others. Islamic Studies: Quran: I have been testing the students every Tuesday on the short surahs I assign for them every week. We are practicing Surat Al-Buruj in class. Please review with your child at home this Surah and allow your child to listen to it on a daily basis. The Students have the Surah with the meaning on their Homework folder. Please remind them to review every night. Please check 3rd grade website and click on the curriculum link to get an idea about the surahs your child supposed to know so far. Here is a wonderful website that your child can listen to, to help him/her catch up on their memorization: www.Quranexplorer.com Lessons: We are learning Unit C: “Worshipping Allah"”. The students are learning about making Wudoo right, Saltu-al-Jama'ah, how to pray Salat-ul-Jamaah, Thikr, and zakah. I have been assigning Islamic Studies homework every week so students can share with you the stories we have learned in class and review better at home for any coming quizzes. Since our first lesson was about Wudoo. Please encourage your child to make Wudoo the right way, including niyyah and the Duaa when they are done making Wudoo. Arabic: We are covering Lesson 4 “Cleanliness". The students are learning about the importance of being clean, having clean clothes, clean classroom and school. They are also memorizing the Hadeeth of Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad about cleanliness (on Page 35). We will also learn the words (Hatha and Hathihi) and th eplural verb with the pronoun they. Please practice the reading on pages 34 -42. Our Vocabulary test will be on Monday february 6th. ( Students have the list of words in their folders.) Our Spelling test will be on Monday February 13th. and our test about comprehension and grammar will be on Friday February 17th. I 'll be sending with your child a short story to read and to answer the questions by the end of the story. Students can use dictionary of the meaning, or they can ask me during recess for help. Notes: · Students are not returning their homework on time. Please note that students have one day to return any late homework and it will be counted 50%less. Any missing Homework will be counted as a zero. Students have to be responsible to make sure to complete their homework through the week. If for any reason your child was not able to finish homework on time. Please write me a note for me on his/her homework folder and he/she will be excused. · Please review with your child few days before any tests or quizzes. Students should sleep early and have healthy breakfasts for better concentration. · For extra homework, there are many useful links your child might benefit from.
