In February we will learn:
Spelling: Long i words, long o words, long u words, long ai words: ai, ay
Grammar: Usage of was, were. Review of proper nouns. Usage of has, have, go, do, see, say (past and present). How to use commas in a letter.
Math: Chapter 7 Place Value & Patterns Goals: Introduce counting, reading, writing and representation of numbers to 100. Develop an understanding of comparing and ordering numbers to 100. Introduce number patterns. Develop and apply problem solving skills. In January we learned:
Language Arts
Phonics: * The students learned stop/continuant blends: bl, cl, cr, dr, gl, pl, tr, and tw. * Children learned to identify /ch/ ch, /hw/wh,/ng/nk. * Blend and read words with digraphs ch, wh. * Blend and read words with nk. * Children learned to identify long a in a-e CVCe (consonant/vowel/consonant) words.
Grammar: * Present tense words * Verbs is and are: understand when to use them Reading: We read the stories Sam's Song, Snakes, Let's Camp Out! from our reading books. Each week we read a new story in class. The second time we read it I ask them comprehension questions. Math * The students learned how to make and read Data and Graphs such as: bar graphs, tally charts, and tables. * Tens and Ones were covered in detail. We used manipulatives in the class for lots of hands-on learning. * Numbers 1 to 100.
Science In Science we have been learning about matter. The kids learned that you can tell how a thing looks, feels, smells, or tastes by its properties. They also learned other science words like mass and matter. We have talked about how we measure temperature (thermometer), length (ruler), and mass or weight (scale).
Social Studies
* How to distinguish between needs and wants. * People have many wants but limited resources to satisfy them. * Identify forms of transportation and how transportation helps people. * Recognize how goods are transported both within neighborhoods and communities and outside a country. * Recognize that money comes in different amounts. * Identify value of coins and bills * Recognize how money is made. * Recognize that every country has its own money. * Recognize distinctive land and water features. * Identify and describe local bodies of water and landforms.
