GENERAL TRYOUT INFORMATION for 2010-2011
Cheerleader Tryouts (Feb. 24-28)
o 2.0 GPA, no more than one out-of-school suspension
o Freshmen cheerleaders will also be active members of Pom Squad
o FR/JV Cheerleaders--Cheer for freshmen/JV football and basketball games
o FR/JV Cheerleaders--Cheer with Pom Squad for varsity football and basketball games
o Practice at least once a week after school throughout the year (FR/JV)
o Varsity practices daily during 7th hour
Mascot Tryouts for Rusty the Bearcat (March 3)
o Same qualifications as for cheer tryouts
o Open to sophomore, junior and senior girls
o Same expectations and time commitment as Varsity cheerleaders
Pom Squad Recruitment (ends in April 2010)
o 9th-12th graders
o 2.0 GPA, no more than one out-of-school suspension
o Required for those trying out for Freshmen cheerleader in August
o Cheer for football and basketball games, perform at football halftime with band
Bearcat Belle Tryouts (March 17-20)
o 9th-12th graders
o 2.0 GPA, no more than one out-of-school suspension
o Perform hip-hop routines at pep rallies and basketball games
o Perform kick routines at football games
Competition Squad Cheerleaders Place 1st at NCA Nationals
The 2009 RHS Competition Cheerleaders placed 1st in Sideline Cheer at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Junior and Senior High Nationals on December 28, 2009, making them the first group in school history to do so! They also placed 2nd in Fight Song and 4th in Timeout Dance. The squad will be featured on Fox Sports Network and VarsityTV. After winning 1st place, they were asked to return for an encore performance for Fox Sports that will be shown in the spring. Seniors Hannah Wheeler and Lauren Fuller were interviewed by NCA and their interview is featured on nca.varsity.com, along with videos of all of Ruston's performances. Congratulations ladies! We are very proud of you!
Ruston High Cheerleaders Compete
at Regionals and Nationals
The 2009 RHS Competition Cheerleaders represented the Bearcats very well at the UCA Louisiana Regional Competition held at Ouachita Parish High School on November 22nd. They took 1st in the Fight Song division, 3rd in the Timeout Dance Division, and 4th in the Sideline Cheer division. The squad was awarded the Gatorade Top Team Award for being the school with the highest overall school in the entire Game Day Division, over West Monroe, Sterlington, Minden, and Redemptorist.
Competition continues for this squad when they compete at the 2009 NCA Senior and Junior High Nationals in Dallas on December 28th. They are competing in the Game Day Division in three categories: Fight Song, Timeout Dance, and Sideline Cheer. Twenty-seven girls make up the competition squad: Emaleigh Bickham, Kelsey Davidson, Shelby Eggen, Caitlin Elliott, Brooke Frasier, Anna Fuller, Lauren Fuller, Sarah Gordon, Shelby Griffith, Morgan Hammons, Rebecca Harris, EāJeanae Hibbert, Morgan Hitt, Taylor Hogan, Katie Hopkins, Raven Kelly, Chelsea Koonce, Morgan LaPrarie, Reghan Lopez, Alex Osborne (RUSTY), Lauren Pate, Jasmine Rooks, Kirsti Roundtree, Lauren Taylor, Hannah Wheeler, Sidney White and Sydni Wilt. Coaches are Heather Reeder, Kyle Falting and Misty Falting. The competition cheerleaders practice 2-3 weekly in addition to their regular cheer responsibilities of games and practices. They have participated in numerous fundraisers, such as a Silent Auction, Hamburger Sack Supper, and parking for Tech football games. Be sure to tell these ladies good luck at Nationals before the Christmas break!
