TALMUD TORAH OF ST. PAUL DAY SCHOOL BRIT for SPORTS PARTICIPANTS and THEIR FAMILIES SPORTS SEASON 2009-2010 To make our program the best it can be, we ask that each participating student and their guardian(s) review these guidelines. We take your signature as your commitment to help us in the ongoing development of the program. Philosophy Physical education and interscholastic athletics can be fun and rewarding experiences for students. These experiences include providing additional opportunities for socializing with peers and for developing physical skills. The goals of the athletic program are to: -create a positive environment within which students can learn and play - provide hands-on experiences in developing and using teamwork - further the student's appreciation and commitment to fitness - teach skills related to specific sports, along with sports-specific rules - foster development of self-discipline, cooperation, sportsmanship, and mutual respect - help students develop a positive self-image Participation All students will have equal opportunities to participate in practices and competitions. (See Commitment Section below) Commitment Students who join a sports team are making a commitment to that team. They are expected to make every effort to attend the practices and games that are scheduled. While all students will participate in practices and games, students who routinely fail to attend practices and games will find that they participate at a reduced level. Students are expected to treat fellow players and coaches with respect, and to follow the direction of the coaches at practices and at games. The use of foul language and other disrespectful or un-sportsman like behavior may result in suspension from one or more games. Communication Students and their parents are encouraged to communicate directly with coaches on any sport-related issue. The TTDS Athletic Director is also a source of information about the programs. Sportsmanship The cornerstone of our program is to promote the ideals of good sportsmanship. We have the highest expectations for our coaches, players and the parent community. Demonstrating good sportsmanship through genuine support for our teams, courtesy towards competitors, and respect for officials is strongly emphasized and monitored. Parents, teachers, and all interested members of our community are strongly encouraged to attend as many games as they can. Cheering for the teams and applauding their efforts are greatly appreciated by the students. The adult members of our community help set an example by applauding the efforts of the athletes (rather than just the results) and by demonstrating respect for coaches, officials, and other teams. ____________________________ __________________________ HectorSztainer,AthleticDirector SaraLynnNewberger, Principal ____________________________ ___________________________ _______________ Student Signature Guardian Signature Date
