Henry And Mudge Reading Program

On Thursday, October 1 we are going to have an exciting guest visit the first and second graders! Maggie, the Mudge look-alike dog will be here, along with Maggie’s owner. They are coming to work in collaboration with our school Library on our new “Henry and Mudge Reading Program” to promote fluency when reading orally. The school librarian, Mrs. Gillam will read a Henry and Mudge book to the children, then they will be introduced to Maggie. Her owner will tell the children about Maggie, and answer any questions they may have. After this presentation, times and dates will be set up in the months of October, January, April and June for children to have the opportunity to read a book to Maggie! Next year in second grade, this year’s first graders will help kick off the program by reading a Henry and Mudge book to the upcoming first graders. The children have been told about our visitor, and that they will have the opportunity to be up close to Maggie. I have told them that if they are uncomfortable around dogs, or if they are intimidated by her size, then they do not have to pet her. Please let me know if any children are allergic to dogs, as they would also not want to pet her. We are very excited about this new program, and can’t wait to meet our new friend Maggie!
