Congratulations to Justin B., Mia C., and London L. for completing all homework assignments and having all tests, quizzes, and agendas signed for the duration of the 1st quarter!!!  I am proud of each one you and your accomplishments have not gone unnoticed!  On Monday, Nov. 18th- these students received a wonderful prize!  Again congratulations to all!

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:

In Social Studies we are learning about the early settlers of Pennsylvania, the Native Americans.  For students to gain a better understanding of the customs of the Native Americans I would like to assign a family project that will be due the week of Friday, November 20th.   There is no better learning than hands-on learning; therefore, I am asking that students construct an authentic model of the Native American homes or other items which will be displayed in the hallway for all to see.  Here is a list of items that you may be interesting in creating:

Wigwam- a hut that the Lenne Lanape tribe lived in

Dugout- a canoe made out of trees

Peacemakers –the leaders of the tribe who settled peace between others (can be

            made out of clay)

Longhouses- long narrow building with a curved roof where hundreds of tribe members lived.  They were built by the Iroquois women.

Palisade- surrounded longhouses for protection.

Tipi- a hut Indians lived in.

Feel free to use any other ideas that may not have been listed above.

Please don’t feel that you have to go out and purchase things for this assignment.  You can collect your things around the house.  It is up to you how you would want the assignment to look.  You can create many of these items simply out of construction paper which I can provide for you.  If you decide to build an Indian house you can use cardboard for the base to attach the house to.  You can also roll construction paper and glue toothpicks to the top of it to create the Tipi look.  You may have Indian action figures around the house in which you can glue them to your model (with no weapons attached J).  Please label your name on these projects.  Thank you for your cooperation and remember to have fun!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Jones

Hello everyone here is what is going on in Mrs. Jones' Classroom.  Every Friday, at the end of the day, students will receive a lottery slip for each day that homework was completed.  Then, we select a name from the lottery box and that student wins a prize!  On Friday, November 20th, R.J. and Mia. won the lottery box and received a great prize!  Also we chose our "The Student of the Week" for the week of Nov. 23rd.  The student who showed the most positive behavior in class and participated a great deal was Brady H.  I would like to congratulate both students on a job well done! Keep up the great work!
