Vocal/Choral Department Mission Statement The philosophy of the Vocal/Choral Department is to provide a classical program that will enhance students’ natural abilities and provide the technical and artistic skills to enable them to pursue collegiate and professional careers.
Music courses are based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and the National Standards. Vocal courses are aligned with requirements specified by the Dallas ISD Fine Arts Directors, Craig Wella and Mackie Spradley. These classes and activities are designed to accomplish the following goals:
· To attract artistically-gifted singers from the Dallas community
· To develop the students’ vocal abilities so they can express themselves musically and maintain good vocal health.
· To develop artistic and creative potential through a sequentially developed curriculum of vocal technique and performance skills
· To provide performance and contest opportunities at the appropriate level
· To prepare students for college/university entry as vocalists
· To establish habits of excellence that will guide them through a lifetime of singing
