George A. Tomey
Principal, University High School
Welcome UHS parents, students and future students of University High School! George Tomey has worked for the Ferndale Public Schools for many years. Prior to being principal at UHS, he served as principal of Coolidge Intermediate School in the Ferndale Schools. Mr. Tomey brings a diverse and rich experience to UHS. He has classroom teaching experience in subjects as varied as English, history, and in the early 1980s, he started a new course, “computers and literature.” He has been a leader in creating experiential education and adventure education programs, including designing and implementing the high ropes course at Ferndale High School. These experiences have given him knowledge in working with both educational and corporate leaders. Tomey has also worked as a social worker in public education, private practice, and as a trainer for his colleagues. His ability to use a social work background has been invaluable in serving students and their families. University High School University High School (UHS) is a public high school with a rigorous college prep curriculum organized around career pathways in the automotive industry. UHS is the newest addition to Ferndale Public Schools (FPS), and is in partnership with Lawrence Technological University. UHS is a co-educational, college preparatory school with a unique focus on preparing students in Grades 9-12 for careers in the automotive industry through exploration and hands-on studies.
