Chemistry K I am very excited about having the opportunity to teach Chemistry K along with Mr. Stevens and Ms. Prybella. We will all be working together as a team to design activities and labs to make the course more inquiry and problem based. Our goal is to have our students make more connections between what they learn in class and real-world chemistry applications. One new aspect of the course in my sections will be the use of interactive science notebooks (ISNs). Research into the way students learn has shown that notetaking and the use of graphic organizers like Venn diagrams and concept maps to make sense of the material are two of the most effective ways to enhance understanding and retention. ISNs also help students think about the ways they learn best, and to take responsibility for their own learning. These are skills that can be transferred to any course, and used in college and in the work place.
