Bob Bertke

 

Bob Bertke is a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Music. He received his Bachelor's of Music Education in 2004 with honors and his Master's of Music Education in 2008. As an undergraduate, Mr. Bertke received the Helen Boswell Award in Music Education. As a graduate student, Mr. Bertke was a graduate teaching assistant as well as the instructor of one music education course at the School of Music. During his time at U of L, Mr. Bertke was also invited to present his research findings at the Kentucky Music Educators Conference in 2008.

In the past, Mr. Bertke has taught in the Hardin County School system at both the middle and high school levels.  In addition to his duties at St. Francis, he also a proud member of the Music Education faculty of the University of Louisville School of Music where he is a lecturer.

Mr. Bertke is also a trumpet player.  As a performer, Mr. Bertke has been a semi-finalist at the National Trumpet Competition (ensemble division).  He has also performed performed with many recording artists and participated in several recording projects, most notably Michael Tunnell's CD titled Passages.  Mr. Bertke has also had the joy and honor of touring Brazil and Italy as a trumpet player.  He is also a founding member and cornetist in The Dixieland Solution.  Mr. Bertke also eagerly seeks out new ensembles to play and perform with as well.

Class News


4th Grade Music

The fourth graders are learning about Impressionism and Minimalism in music. These are two of the special galleries that are in the Speed Art Museum and will be there for Fine Arts Evening.

5th Grade Music

The fifth graders are beginning a unit on impressionist music. We will be learning about the causes of the movement, who the famous composers of the era were, and learning music from that time.

5th Grade Humanities

Fifth grade Humanities classes are starting a unit on charity. Our two main essential questions are - Why do people help others? In what ways can we help? We are currently making informative movies which we will present to the class.

6th Grade Music

The sixth graders are starting our preparation for Fine Arts Evening. We will focus mainly on impressionist and minimalist music. Additionally, we will learn about the artwork at the Speed and let that guide our choice of music.

7th Grade Music

The seventh grade is learning 20th Century non-traditional music. We are exploring the concepts of serialism, chance, and minimalism.

8th Grade Music

The eighth graders are nearly done with their songs. Most have begun the recording process and we hope to present them soon.
