Kim Aberle

"Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."

Berthold Auerbach

Kim Aberle is excited to be back at St. Francis for her fifth year, teaching general and choral music to children grades JK through 3.   Kim is happy to be teaching in a school where children are allowed the freedom to learn through discovery, whether it be moving, singing or creating beautiful melodies on an instrument. Kim holds a Level 1 certificate in Orff-Schulwerk.  In her spare time she teaches piano lessons and serves as organist/pianist at her church.  She is currently working on a series of childrens books highlighting facts about the United States through song.

Kim holds a bachelors of Science in music education from Indiana State University and a Masters in Secondary Education from Indiana University.  Kim has had works published in music resource magazines, most recently a piece titled "Summers Leafing Us Behind".   Kim belongs to the Kentucky Orff-Shulwerk Chapter, the American Orff-Schulwerk Association and the Music Educators National Conference.

Kim is married and has two sons, Geoffrey and Harrison, who both attend St. Francis.

THIS MONTH IN MUSIC

Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten students are exploring their four voices, playing games using various ways to use them.  Students use manipulatives like beanie babies, puppets and books when singing.  Movement is a big part of our class, too.

First, Second and Third Graders are using the poem Peas Porridge Hot while reviewing good technique on the Orff instruments.  First graders are practicing steady beat, while second and third are exploring advanced techniques like alternating beat and accents.
