Mr. Westcott's Homework Policy
Homework must be signed by parent every night!

Current Events:
Students will be doing a very short current events HW assignment EVERY night. When I assign other Social Studies HW that may require more time/work on that night the students will not be required to do the current event assignment.

Students have three options for the current events HW.
  1. Watch the evening news (any time, any channel) for 10 minutes at the beginning of the hour. For ex. 5:00-5:10, 6:00-6:10, etc. or,
  2. Read an article in any of the major NY newspapers (Times, Daily News, Post, etc.) or,
  3. Read an online news site (NY Daily News, NY Post, Fox News, CNN, etc)
In their Social Studies notebook write a very short ( 2-3 sentences) summary about one story.

Other Social Studies HW may include short activities/assignments that will either reinforce the material we covered in class that day or will introduce something that we will be discussing the following day.

The homework assignments should not require too much, if any, parental assistance. I will not assign homework that the students will not be able to do on their own. If you see them struggling please let me know.
