SUMMER ENRICHMENT Summer Enrichment

Math Path is a summer program for middle school students who are gifted in math.  In 2009, it will be held on the campus of Colorado College in Colorado Springs from June 28-July 26.  Tuition is $4500.  See the link below for more information.

Math Zoom academic camp at California Polytechnic University in Pomona from July 26 to August 15, 2009; 1-3 weeks at about $1100/week, ages 12-17.  Weekend stay is $250 extra per weekend.  Focuses on preparing students for math contests like AMC 8 or 10/12; MathCounts, International Math Olympiad, etc.  See the link below for more information.

Summer at RPI offers a number of opportunities from residential for high school students, to day programs for high school and middle school students.  Some of the opportunities are listed below, but to see the entire course catalogue visit the Summer at Rensselaer website listed below.

Kopernik Summer Science Explorations for middle and high school students is held at the Kopernik Space Educaton Center in Vestal, NY.  Students are housed on campus at Binghamton University.  Students pursue scientific investigations in astronomy and space science.  Some financial assistance is provided for students with a demonstrated need.  See the website for more information.

Lego Robotics Engineering Academy - Summer day camp for ages 11-14 at RPI.  Participants use LEGO Mindstorms to design, construct, and program robotic solutions to complex engineering challenges.  Two full day sessions; July 7-18 and July 21-August 1.  For more information, visit the  link below or contact gunthm@rpi.edu, phone 518-276-8351.  There is also a VOX Robotics Engineering camp for students 13-15.

Nature's Treasure Hunt:  Exploring Local Ecosystems Through Art & Science.  This camp, held at RPI, uses lab techniques to teach ecological awareness and further literacy.  Held July 7-11, 2008; open to students 8-12 years old.  Tuition $500.  See the RPI Summer Camp link below for application materials.

Whodunit?  The Science of Crime Scenes.  This one-week program teaches rising 7th and 8th grade students about forensic science using hands-on lab exercises, field trips, and speakers.  Learn the science behind crime scene investigations.  The camp is held July 21-25, 2008 and tuition is $500.  See the RPI Summer Camp link below for application materials.

RPI Young Actors Guild - Acting camp for ages 8-18.  Dates July 10-August 11, tuition $825.  For more information call Mary D'Amico, (518) 276-6505.

18th Century Colonial Camp - Reenactment experiences in Cohoes.  August 14-18, ages 9-16.  Tuition $200.  Deadline June 1.  Contact (518) 489-5160.

NYS Environmental Conservation Camps - Ages 12-17, various dates.  Explore weeklong adventure and ecology camps.  See link below.

Archeology Summer Camp - July 10-14, ages 10-12.  Tuition $250.  Help real archeologists uncover buried remains of Ten Broeck Mansion's history.  Phone 436-9826.

St. Rose Summer Academy for Youth - Grades 6-10.  Courses in humanities and science, technology, etc.  See the link below for more information.

Penn State University Middle School Enrichment.  4-week camp June 28 to July 25, for students completing 6th, 7th, or 8th grade.  Tuition is $4695.  For more information, see the link below.
