AWARDS & SCHOLARSHIPS

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards - Honors young people in middle and high school grades for outstanding volunteer service to their communities.  The application must be completed online, click on the link listed below to apply.  During the application process, you will be asked for the school's access code.  Our access code is SPIRIT.  The application must be completed by October 26th.  The school will select one nominee for every 1,000 students (counting students in grades 5-8).  The criteria used for judging will include:(1) Initiative - How much personal initiative was involved in the activity?  Did the applicant initiate the activity on their own, or demonstrate exceptional leadership or motivation in an already organized activity?  (2)  Effort - How much time and effort did the activity require?  Were there obstacles that had to be overcome?  (3) Impact - How much of a difference did the activity make?  Were a significant number of people affected, or were the lives of certain individuals impacted in a major way?  (4) Personal Growth - Did the applicant develop new insights or skills from the experience?  Does the application reflect a sound understanding of the importance of serving others?  School nominees will be announced by November 7th.  Nominees will be notified of the judging results of the national program by mail in mid-February.

Math Moves U Scholarships Program - Answer questions about why you think math is cool, and you could earn a $1,000 personal scholarship and a $1,000 matching grant for the school.  This year's deadline is passed, but watch the website link below for information on next year's program.
