Rhetorical Analysis: Restaurant Menus TASK: Using the Internet, identify and locate three restaurants that fit the same demographics (i.e., type of food, price range, clientele, etc.). The selected restaurants must have their full menus available on-line. 1. Study each menu. What seem to be the primary strategies used to attract interest? On one page, briefly explain the three predominant strategies at work. Cite specific examples to illustrate your views. Create one page of analysis for each menu. 2. Select two food items that appear on each menu (e.g., cheeseburger, sirloin steak, chicken salad). Compare the listings. How is the wording designed to appeal to customers? How does the menu writer try to sell the product? 3. Based solely on the posted menus, which restaurant would likely have the greater appeal to customers? Why? Compose a 200-word evaluation. Be sure to identify and explain the most effective strategies. Be sure to explain why some descriptions create a stronger sense of appeal than others. 4. Write a menu description for the following: Cheeseburger with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and a special sauce.
