Learning Centers

Who said learning can't be fun? During center time, students will learn social studies concepts by playing games, use computer programs, and other educational technology. The activities are chosen to coordinate with the social studies curriculum. Learning centers will take place during the first 25 minutes of class each Friday (The last 15 minutes of class will be spent watching Assignment the World, a children's news show. Please see the link on my homepage for more information). Students will travel in groups and visit one of 6 centers each week. By the end of the marking period, students will have visited all 6 centers. At the end of each marking period, the activities will change and a new rotation will begin for the next quarter. As they work, students will be expected to complete a worksheet which corresponds to their activity. Worksheets are due at the end of center time, and will be graded by the teacher. These grades will make up a high percentage of each student's classwork grade for the marking period.
