Congratulations to the Lady Falcons Volleyball team, they are the 2017 Undefeated Volleyball County Champions! This is the 2nd County Championship in 3 years. This is their 2nd undefeated season and they have only lost 2 games in 3 years. The Lady Falcons had a difficult road to get to the finals. They had to play a strong Silver Trail Middle School in the Semi-Finals and Tequesta Trace, who they beat in the regular season, in the Finals on the same night. The Falcons were focused and determined this season. After a tough loss in the play-offs last year they were not going to let that be their memory of their volleyball careers at Falcon Cove. They felt it should’ve been 3 years in a row and that they gave it away last year.
It truly takes every player on a team to be completely committed to each other to be a champion. Helen Ramos and Kayla Alhadeff are players that demonstrated that every day. Players Isabela Gonzalez, Corina Palacios, Cecilia Robert Rodriguez, and Marcela Romanelli have been on the team all three years. Corina Palacios was named Finals MVP in 2015 as a 6th grader and Isabela Gonzalez was named Finals MVP in 2017. Setters, Corina Palacios and Isabella Villalonga, were always in control of the games and spread the ball around. Their hitters, Ceci Rodriguez, Isabela Gonzalez, Marcella Proenca, and Marcela Romanelli each had an amazing season with their ability to spike the ball from anywhere on the court. Other teams had hitters, but the Falcons ability to play defense (Perla Rosa, Maria Jauregui, Marcella Proenca) and pass the hits was undeniable and incredible.
Coach Hoopes,” This is such a uniquely talented group of young ladies. Just because they are talented doesn’t mean they automatically would be Champions. In fact, it means they had to strive to be better every day and not sit and waste the talent they have. On our teams we try to create a competitive, supportive, family atmosphere. I’m loud and I get fired up, in an attempt to show the girls it’s ok to give your all, make mistakes, get excited, and let yourself enjoy your successes. I am strict and I expect a lot from my players, with no excuses. I give the girls everything I have and I expect that in return. That creates a respect that can’t be broken. I am trying to instill the importance of a great work ethic. That is tough to teach. But as a coach of young ladies I feel it’s one of the most important characteristics I can help them with, especially in today’s world. I appreciate the sacrifices these girls, and their parents, make to play for their school. In a time where clubs and coaches only want you to play for them, it’s a difficult decision they have to make. These young ladies are strong and fearless fighters! True Champions inside and out! I am beyond proud of them!”
