ONLINE SCIENCE TEXTBOOK

All students (and parents) can access our science textbook online. This is a handy function that allows students to carry less books to and from home and can serve as an aid for study/homework/research purposes.

To access the site, just click on the link below. The students login is as follows (please write it down prior to clicking on the link - which will take you out of this website area):

username: SCSESEG4

password: Pelican

Once on the textbook site go to the Table of Contents (on the left side navigation bar) and decide what page/section you want to go to. The easiest way to get to the section is to then click on Page Navigator (also on the left side navigation bar) and click on the appropriate page.

To get back to the main textbook page click on the bookmark icon on the left (it looks like a page with a blue bookmark sticking out of it).

ONLINE SCIENCE TEXTBOOK ACTIVITES

In addition to being able to access the entire textbook on line, our science textbook company has several online activities for students associated with each chapter. These activites involve vocabulary games, interactive chapter reviews with quizzes, and interactive models. These activites can be found by clicking on the link below named "Textbook Activities."

Please note...our textbook is not an exact match to the South Carolina State Standards. I use the textbook in class if chapters/concepts are relevant to the standard being addressed in the lesson of the day. This means that some items get more attention then others (For example, information about the layers of the atmosphere are not addressed in the state standards however it is covered in the textbook. This means I might skip over several portions of that particular chapter. The chapter regarding the water cycle and clouds is an exact match to the standards so students will see more of that chapter.) Bottom line, if students engage in the online activities they might see things that I do not address in class. This is fine. Students will gain valuable experience trying to answer the questions correctly or better yet cross referencing the questions with the online textbook to find the answers.

I have played all the games and taken all the interactive quizzes and they are definitely worth letting students engage in.
