Math Math

Students at Mossy Oaks Elementary will be following the Everyday Math curriculum for first through fifth grade.

Each fourth grade student has been issued a Student Reference Book, which should stay in their book bag between home and school and a Student Workbook (along with a measurement template).

The fourth grade Everyday Math curriculum has been divided into twelve units. Each unit is listed below. On the left hand navigation bar under "Math" you will also find each unit broken up into a separate online page within this website. These indidual pages will give you more information about each unit, provide an online copy of the Everyday Math Family Letter, and provide links to online games that students may enjoy related to the unit's topic.

Unit 1 - Naming and Constructing Geometric Units

Unit 2 - Using Numbers and Organizing Data

Unit 3 - Mutiplication and Division; Number Sentences and Algebra

Unit 4 - Decimals and Their Uses

Unit 5 - Big Numbers, Estimation, and Computation

Unit 6 - Division: Map Reference Frames; Measures of Angles

Unit 7 - Fractions and Their Uses; Chance and Probability

Unit 8 - Perimeter and Area

Unit 9 - Fractions, Decimals, and Percents

Unit 10 - Reflections and Symmetry

Unit 11 - 3-D Shapes, Weight, Volume, and Capacity

Unit 12 - Rates

In addition to materials in these units students will be exposed to math videos, Fantastic Five reviews, strategies for breaking down problems, and songs designed to help students remember key concepts (we will be using songs from the album "Rockin the Standards" - this is an excellent resource for students and can be purchased on line through www.rockinthestandards.com or downloaded from Itunes).

At the start of each unit a Family Letter will go home regarding the objectives of the unit. The letter highlights key vocabulary, addresses ways that parents can help reinforce material at home, and has a homework helper section. Please keep this reference letter someplace handy, as from time to time material does come home that students may need help with.

HOMEWORK - You can expect to see homework at least four times a week with the Everyday Math curriculum. Please check agendas if there is ever a question.

EVERYDAY MATH ONLINE - All students, within a few weeks of school starting, will be issued a username and password to access the student portion of Everyday Math online (www.everydaymathonline.com). This allows students access to several games, which they are encouraged to play and master throughout the year.

If you have any questions about the Everyday Math curriculum, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can use the "forms" link to the left to send me an email or you can call me at 843-322-2900.
