What is a flipped classroom?

The flipped classroom inverts traditional teaching methods, delivering instruction online outside of class and moving "homework" into the classroom.

What a flipped classroom model does...

  • Students watch lectures at home at their own pace, communicating with peers and teachers via online discussions.
  • Concept engagement takes place in the classroom with the help of the instructor.

Videos

The video below - Why I Flipped My Classroom - is the first in a series of videos about the subject of flipped classrooms. The presenter is an fifth year 8th grade math teacher. She has created a series of question and answer videos that include information on what to do if you students don't watch the videos at home and what if they don't have technology access at home.

I highly recommend the series for those interested in learning more about flipping their classroom.
