Henry and Mudge Reading Program

On Thursday, October 1st the Henry and Mudge Reading Program will kick off for its second year with a visit from Maggie. Maggie is a 203 pound English Mastiff therapy dog, which looks just like Mudge from the popular Henry & Mudge series by author Cynthia Rylant. To begin the program, the 1st graders will enjoy a Henry & Mudge story, read by librarian Mrs. Gillam. The excited students will also learn from Maggie's owner, Mrs. Perry, all about what it is like to own a real English Mastiff and how Maggie became a certified therapy dog. After the presentation, the children will be able to ask questions and meet Maggie. To further encourage students to read, Maggie will be coming back during the school year to give each 1st grader an opportunity to read a Henry & Mudge story to her.
