Author Studies Author Studies are a great way to introduce children to the wonderful world of reading and writing. As we study each author, we look for "fingerprints" of that author. An author's fingerprints are those things the author does that makes his/her books unique from other authors. For example, Dr. Seuss uses lots of onomatopoeia (sound words), made up characters and rhymes in his stories. We also compare and contrast author's books and characters, create story maps, talk about character traits, notice illustrations, and partner read. We often use the books as mentor texts for our own writing as well.
