what s happening in 229...…
In Reading Workshop the children will continue to ‘mark up the text’ when looking for specific answers to questions. Children will also be reading stories about the leprechaun and looking for the beginning, middle and end. Our grammar skill will be contractions using ‘not.’ Our new author will be Tomie dePaola.
In Writing Workshop we practice paragraph writing. Children will be using a “hamburger” graphic organizer to list their topic, details and concluding sentence. We will go through the writing process by editing and rewriting a final copy as well. This week’s topic of course is…. Describe a leprechaun!
In math we will continue to subtract with regrouping. This is a tough skill so we will spend a lot of time with it. When your child is doing the homework, have him/her tell you all the steps. It is also helpful to review addition with regrouping.
Our science unit is matter. We will learn about the three states- solid, liquid, gas. We will talk about matter in relation to maple sap and syrup as well.
Don’t forget that Wednesday is St. Patrick’s Day. Wear your green! We have some fun reading, writing and art activities planned to help us celebrate!
We welcome Mr. Horne to our class for Jr. Achievement this week. A big thank you in advance goes out to Jason’s dad for taking time for the next 5 weeks to teach us about how a community runs and works. Look for more information to come home.
Mrs. Sheridan spoke to us about consequences in Second Step. We learned there are good and bad consequences to our actions. Have your second grader tell you about some of these.
Congratulations to our VIP:
