Small Moment Writing Celebration

We are so proud of our writing in second grade! We each wrote, revised and edited our own small moment story. Here are the steps we took... 1. We wrote a bunch of true stories that happened to us. We tried to zoom in on one important moment and then stretch that out. Each author tried to "see the movie in his/her mind" before we wrote about it. We looked for the details we could see, hear, feel, smell or taste. We told our story across the pages with a friend and then we sketched it out. 2. Revision- We made sure that the reader could tell what we were thinking and feeling when we wrote our story-- Is it a happy feeling? Loving? Sad? This is the heart of our story. 3. Edit- We each had a buddy who helped us. We looked for correct spelling, complete sentences, capitals and periods. Of course we had to reread it to make sure it made sense. 4. Publishing- We each gave our story a title. Then we designed a cover. We rewrote any pages that were too confusing because of too many cross-outs or corrections. 5. Writing Celebration- We shared our stories in small groups. Each group member had to tell us one thing (or more) that they liked about their stories. We cheered for our friends as everyone got a certificate and special surprise! Here are some pictures from when we shared our stories with a friend.....
