Welcome to Our Weekly Newsletter! Friday, May 18, 2012 Curriculum Highlights: Reading - Great job on AR reading! Three students earned over 100 pts. for this nine weeks alone!! We have been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and enjoying candy sent in as we read! Some students even hid golden tickets in their candy wrappers for us to find! In writing, we wrote our letters home to share about our week. Math: In Math, previewed for fourth grade. Also, we designed our own game, complete with objectives, directions, and game pieces. The students did a great job of designing these and then getting to play them. Announcements/Reminders: Dear Parents, Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Author Celebration! The students did a fantastic job of presenting their writings! I am so proud of all of them! I am often asked what parents can do to prepare their child for the next grade level. My answer is read, read, read. Reading is so important! It helps students in all subject areas! Also, it is a great time to spend with your child and they will remember this for years to come! Keep practicing math skills this summer so your child will be ready for fourth grade. Multiplication facts should be memorized. Practice word problems and counting back change as these are areas in which a lot of students struggle. Above all, have fun and make some great memories with your child this summer! They do grow up oh so quickly! Thank you for two wonderful years that I will never forget! Your children are precious and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching them learn and grow. -Mrs. Campbell Last 3 days of third grade: Monday, May 21 - Game day - Students may bring in educational games (no electronic games) Tuesday, May 22 - Read-in - Students may bring in a few of their favorite books to read or share with the class. Wednesday, May 23 - Last day of school - Please do not bring a bookbag or lunchbox if you ride the bus (this is a Gwinnett County rule for safety). I hope you can join us at the school picnic out front from 12:35-1:25. If you plan to buy your lunch from the cafeteria, please let me know by Monday so they can plan for the extra lunches. Hope to see you all then! You may bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on. Please have your child sit with our class the entire time. We have to all stay together and sit in an assigned area for safety. Also, students must be checked out through the front office if you wish for them to leave with you after the picnic. As a reminder, there are no student check outs after 2:30. If you do plan for your child to leave early, please send me an email to let me know. Have a great weekend!
