Riverside Art Club 2009 Field Trip 5-7-09
This year The Riverside Art Club's field trip was to Dia:Beacon on the Hudson River in New York 65 miles from NYC. The second stop was The Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, New York.
Dia:Beacon is a spacious old Nabisco factory turned art museum. It features work of artists from the 1960's to the present. Warhol, LeWitt, Beuys, and Serra just to mention a few.
Storm King is 500 acres of monumental sculpture featuring Calder, Noguchi, Smith, Di Suvero, Serra, Ginnever, Abakanowicz, Nevelson, Snelson, Streeter and Goldsworthy just to name a few! What a beautiful place. We were there two days before the new earthwork by Maya Lin (Vietnam War Memorial Wall) Bodies of Water was to be dedicated. The Riverside Art Club got to see it before it was dedicated!! These are two great places not far from each other that would make a great day outing for anyone. In the fall Storm King will knock your socks off!!!!
