2008 NEPA Regional Biennial Exhibition
On November 3, 2008 I took a group of students on a field trip to see the 2008 NEPA Regional Biennial Exhibition. This show includes work from artists living in Northeast Pennsylvania, the southern tier of New York and western New Jersey. The Show consisted of 4 venues; The Hope Horn Gallery at the University of Scranton, Artists for Art Gallery in Downtown Scranton, The Mahady Gallery at Marywood University in Scranton, and The Linder Gallery at Keystone College in La Plume, Pennsylvania. We visited three of the venues. Students got to see three pieces of my sculpture first-hand exhibited at The Mahady Gallery at Marywood. I am grateful to all the venues for letting my students visit. I want to personally thank Drake Gomez, Cliff Prokop and Ward Roe at Keystone College. Ward, thank you for your gallery talk on the photography exhibited in the Linder Gallery. Your interesting insights in regard to the work there enriched my students and my own experience. At Marywood, Gallery director Sandra Povse is always a gracious hostess that always lends her expertise with excellent gallery talks to my students. Thanks again Sandy! A field trip to Marywood is not complete without a visit to the rotating Maslow Collection curated by Robert Schweitzer (Bob as he would rather have you call him). Bob, thank you for taking the time to give my students an informative gallery talk on your current Maslow exhibition. Thank you Matt Povse for letting my students tour your great ceramics studio and observe university ceramics students at work! At the University of Scranton's Hope Horn Gallery I want to again thank gallery director Darlene Miller-Lanning for allowing my students to visit there. Painting is the favorite medium of some Riverside students on this field trip and they said they liked your gallery best! My students experienced a very full day of visiting galleries, viewing diverse styles and media of art and writing critiques. They viewed five separate bodies of artistic expression, listened to four informative gallery talks, and visited three separate venues. Thank you all for your dedication, inspiration and expertise in nurturing the artistic education and futures of art students of Riverside Jr. - Sr. High School. You are a valuable credit and resource to art education in our community! We are lucky to have you all close to home. Thank you students on the trip for exhibiting great manners to the art professionals in our community and letting them see how interested you are in art. You are all fine representatives of Riverside Jr. - Sr. High School and I am proud of you!
