HOW TO SUCCEED IN MRS. SPOTO’S

AMERICAN HISTORY CLASS

I.                  COME TO CLASS PREPARED.  IF NOT 3 U’S = 5 POINTS                                                                                                                            OFF GRADE.

A.     HAVE WRITING TOOLS AVAILABLE AND READY.

1.     2 PENS (different colors).

2.     2 Pencils.

B.   HAVE ALL ASSIGNMENTS COMPLETED ON TIME!

1.     Homework is 30% of your grade.  You will start with a 100 for a grade.  For each missed assignment 5 points will be deducted from your marking period grade.

2.     All assignments must have a proper heading.

3.     Neatness and effort count – do your homework as if it will be collected every day… you never know!

II.               BEHAVE IN CLASS.

A.   Be on time for class.  You are to be seated in my room before the bell rings.

1.     Anyone entering the class without a pass after the bell has rung will be written up.  Three times and you will be in detention.

B. Respect others when they are speaking.  Be sure to raise your hand.  You will be given a turn to speak.  Please wait in a quiet and orderly fashion.  Do not keep your hand up  while someone is speaking.

C.               Have all materials in class.  You will NOT be permitted to go to your locker.

D.               Pencils must be sharpened before class begins.

E.               Stay in your seat… do NOT get up for any reason.

F.  NO gum or candy is allowed in class. I don’t  want arguments about  whether or not you are chewing something.  When I catch you …(and I will!) it  will be noted.  Three times… you will be on Gum Patrol --- cleaning desks after school!

II.    BE RESPONSIBLE

A.   When absent turn in work upon your return. You will have a week to make any tests/quizzes up.

B.   If you need extra help please see me any day but Tuesday.

III.           GRADING POLICY

A.   Tests –30%

B.   Homework and Current Events -- 30 % PLEASE NOTE THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS AREA.

C.   Notebooks – 10%

D.   Class Participation – 5%

E.   Projects –  15%

F.   Quizzes – 10%

IV.            SUPPLIES

A.   I am asking  for a specific brand of 3 subject notebook.  I would appreciate it if you could get it.  It is sturdy and has a folder.  It can be found in Staples. “GBC Professional Series View-Tab Notebook.” The sku is 501436.  If you can’t get this try to find a three subject notebook that is sturdy.

B.   Pens and Pencils (different color pens)

C.   A GOOD ATTITUDE!

V.               HOMEWORK PASSES

A.   DO YOUR HOMEWORK – YOU EARN PASSES TWICE A MARKING PERIOD.  YOU MAY NOT MISS MORE THAN ONE ASSIGNMENT BEFORE PROGRESS REPORTS  AND ANOTHER BEFORE REPORT CARDS.

VI.            EXTRA CREDIT

A.     YOU WILL BE GIVEN VARIOUS ASSIGNMENTS FOR EXTRA CREDIT ON TESTS.  IT IS MANDATORY THAT THIS BE DONE.

KEEP THIS IN YOUR FOLDER FOR FUTURE REFERENCE!!
