Career and Technical Education courses will enable students to explore various career options and prepare for employment and/or for college.  CTE includes Business, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Technology.

  • CTE courses are designed to assist students with understanding the relationship between school and work.
  • CTE courses allow students to test skills in Columbia’s laboratory classrooms, which are models of the real world.
  • CTE creates opportunities that build a strong relationship between Columbia High School and the business community through internships, field trips, and guest speakers.
  • Business courses prepare students for college and careers.  Knowledge of computers, accounting, banking, insurance, business law, investments, marketing, and financial education are all skills vital to success in life.
  • Family and Consumer Sciences classes prepare students for college studies and job skills for careers in culinary arts, fashion and interior design, and child and family studies.
  • Technology courses explain how all products and systems are designed, constructed, manufactured, and maintained.
  • The Family and Consumer Sciences Department has articulation agreements with SUNY Cobleskill and Schenectady County Community College.  The Business Education Department provides College in the High School courses through Hudson Valley Community College.
  • Constant input from the employment sector keeps curricula up to date with changes in industry.
  •  Hottest college degree programs in 2004 were found in accounting, business administration, economics/finance, computer science, marketing and information sciences.
  • One of the fastest growing careers in the 21st Century is in the Food/Hospitality Industry.
