What Can You, as a Parent, Do to Help Your Child? What Can You, as a Parent, Do to Help Your Child?

Parents are the most important people in a child's life.  You can do many things to help your child be a better reader.

  • Children need to develop the language skills to be good readers - talk with your child.
  • Have lots of reading materials around the house (books, magazines, newspapers).
  • Provide your child with writing supplies (crayons, pencils, paper).
  • Visit libraries and bookstores.
  • Cut down on TV time and make time for reading on a regular basis.
  • Show your child that you value reading and let him/her see you reading a variety of materials.
  • MOST OF ALL, READ TO AND WITH YOUR CHILD, ESPECIALLY ANY TAKE-HOME BOOKS THAT YOUR CHILD WILL BRING HOME.
