What Can You, as a Parent, Do to Help Your Child?
|
|
Parents are the most important people in a child's life. You can do many things to help your child be a better reader. - Children need to develop the language skills to be good readers - talk with your child.
- Have lots of reading materials around the house (books, magazines, newspapers).
- Provide your child with writing supplies (crayons, pencils, paper).
- Visit libraries and bookstores.
- Cut down on TV time and make time for reading on a regular basis.
- Show your child that you value reading and let him/her see you reading a variety of materials.
- MOST OF ALL, READ TO AND WITH YOUR CHILD, ESPECIALLY ANY TAKE-HOME BOOKS THAT YOUR CHILD WILL BRING HOME.
