Saeger's Scoop November Welcome Autumn! This is an enjoyable time in school. We ended the month of October with National Apple Crunch day. The apples were delicious. We had our Great Pumpkin Run exercise activity and Fall Festival. A school wide pumpkin contest was held. The Carbon County Environmental Educational Center is presenting an animal show. School will be closed Nov. 25th for a teacher in-service day and Nov. 26-30th so we can all celebrate Thanksgiving. Picture retakes will be on November 3rd. November 13th there will be a school wide spirit day. Pajama/slippers/stuffed animals may be brought to school. November 24th we will have a Turkey Trot: Fitness Day. If you have not signed up for a conference yet, please call the office and do so. Please, remember there will be early dismissal Nov. 19-24th at 1:15 p.m. Across from the cafeteria is a story retelling that we illustrated about a crazy lady with too many pumpkins. Outside of our classroom is a display of a variety of activities we have done throughout the month. Please take time to look at all of our wonderful work. Thank you to everyone who looks at the assignment books daily and the Friday newsletter (written by your child). The children are reminded daily to write in their assignment books. As some of you have noticed not every day is filled out. I do not check the books every day only on a Friday and if the children fill them out completely, all month long, they receive a special treat. Only a few children still have trouble completing this task daily. Do not worry they will do it eventually. It is all part of learning to be responsible and organizing your time. Keep asking them why they did not fill it in and let them know that you want to see it. If they do fill it in let them know how proud you are that they remembered to do it. The Book It sheet for October needs to be returned to school with your signature so your child can receive the pizza certificate from Pizza Hut. Kid Stuff book sale ended on Friday Oct. 30th. If you are purchasing the book send $25.00 to school and if you do not wish to purchase the book just return it to school. PTO Movie Night will feature the movie "UP" on Nov. 10th and November 11th at the NL Middle School at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. $2.00 per person pay at the door admission. Pre-movie candy .25 cents to .50 cents each will be offered. Menus are not sent home anymore in paper form. To see what we are having for lunch, you may check it out by using my links and School Information. It can be found there or www.nlsd.org under Resources. There is also a place for you to pay online. A letter was sent home with your child's user name and password to log in to our reading series web site. You will be able to see the readers we have been using in guided reading time and parts of our reading books. Also, I put our spelling lists on a site, www.spellingcity.com . The user name is dsaeger and the password is saeger. I tried to make it simple enough for the children to use independently. On this site are games the children can play to reinforce their spelling skills. Please encourage your child to practice their addition facts and definition of the vocabulary words used in math. Every day 3 we have our Second Step Guidance classes. Conflict resolution and expressing feelings are discussed. Remember to make sure your child comes to school dressed to go outside. some children to not wear warm enough coats. We go out every morning at 11:00 unless the temperature has hit the freezing point. It is good for the children to get fresh air and exercise. Northern Lehigh Marching Band is asking everyone to join them at Friendly's restaurant on November 2nd and The Northern Lehigh Education Foundation is having a fundraiser at the store Five Below from now til the end of the year. 10% of the sales during those times will be donated back the organizations.
