HOMEWORK!

EVERY WEEK!

English Language Arts

(Mrs. Phelps' Early Support students will have their own assignments for English Language Arts.)

  • Read your poem from your Poetry Binder to a grown-up. ( poetry Binders will come home most Fridays)  Be sure to bring them back to school each Monday.   Ppoetry promotes enjoyment and awareness of language, word patterns, rhyming and fluency. Poetry also helps develop comprehension skills and understanding of figurative and symbolic language.
If your child hasn't already done so, he or she may want to illustrate the poems in the Poetry Binder. This is your child's mental image of the poem. Creating a mental image is an important part of both our Reading and Writing Program.
  • Share your Friday Journal with a grown-up.  Friday Journals will also come home most Fridays.   Please take a moment to write a short note back to your child commenting on what he or she is doing as a writer!  At the end of the school year your child will have a years worth of memories in his or her journal!  Be sure to bring your Friday Journal back to school each Monday.
  • Every Monday (excepting review weeks) you will take home a "McGraw Hill book" and related worksheet.  Read the book and complete the related worksheet and return it to school the following Monday.  The related worksheets can be downloaded from this web site under the Classroom News and Homework downloads section.
  • Each week you will also take home a Mystery word worksheet.  Try to create as many words as you can from the scrambled letters of the mystery word.  The letters for this week are :  t,v,r,a,n,e,e  See if you can figure out the mystery word as well!  Return this to school each Monday.
