Computing and Technology Workshops
ASA Annual Meeting 2010, San Diego, CA Oct. 16, 17, 18
George J. Sheplock, MD Co-Moderator Michael P. Smith MD, Co-Moderator Brian Rothman, MD Co-Moderator
Advancements in the technology of mobile devices to deliver, process and access information including multimedia is enabling a family of devices to quickly become the most important, convenient, and user-friendly tool for access and content delivery. The future of medical publishing for research, white papers, specialized topics, and medical education training in general is becoming more and more web and mobile smart phone dependent. Digital publishing uses multimedia to explain, support, illustrate, and define difficult concepts to fellow doctors, hospital staff, medical students and patients. The emerging expectation of the learner is to engage in a multi-sense learning experience using: video, simulation, animation, voice, sound effects, music, photos, text, and URL links. Workshops for mixed media software applications and mobile computing are designed to explain, clarify, and demonstrate the ease of producing and publishing using mixed media. Learn the key features and options using industry standard digital tools so you can produce and publish for yourself and know what to expect from others who produce for you. Attendees can use the information gained in these workshops to create and utilize content for their mobile devices and personal computing in academic and clinical settings.
These workshops are entering their ELEVENTH year. They have been well received and attended by the ASA membership. These Workshops are taught by very experienced instructors who are skilled at working with audiences with varying degrees of knowledge. They are recognized as some of the best instructors in the nation. The professional instructors will be assisted by members of the ASA’s EMIT committee.
After registering for a workshop, registrants will be allowed to participate in a survey that will provide feedback to allow instructors to fine-tune the workshop content for each class. Registrants for each class will also have access to a “Registrant-Only” section of the website containing course materials (handouts and other reference materials) for all the classes in the computing workshops.
Format: There will be two sessions a day with three hours of instruction in each session and a 15-minute break during the session.
