Dear Parents,

What a glorious sight to see so many of our sweet first graders dressed up as their favorite saints last Monday!  We had the BEST participation in the whole school: 86% of our class came dressed as saints.  We earned the Cathedral School Spirit Flag for our love of saints and good work learning all about them.  Our class celebration of All Saints was just heavenly!  The children enjoyed playing Saints Bingo and Saints Walk along with making a saint statue.  The food was so delicious!   Many thanks to the moms who planned this celebration for us:  Mrs. Behar, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Dorsey, Mrs. Flack, Mrs. Lahiff, Mrs. Lai, Mrs. Lambert, Mrs. McKinstry, and Mrs. Taylor.

Mrs. Moss knows we love the saints so much that she bought our class a very beautifully illustrated encyclopedia of saints.  We are thankful to our principal for thinking of us and for her kindness to us.

We are "out of the book" this week for Religion since it is a 3-day school week.  The saints we will be learning about this week are Saint Martin of Tours and Saint Frances Cabrini.

Please remember the Saints project is coming quickly to a close.  The completed outline is due after our long 6 day break, on Wednesday, November 11 and the drawing is due 2 days later on Friday, November 13.

Even though it is another short week, the children will have a Spelling test, Math timed test, a Reading selection test, and sight word assessment on Friday.

Reading Records will be collected on Friday, November 13th.  I hope the children did lots of reading and recording over the long break!

It was a pleasure getting to sit down with the parents last Thursday and Friday to discuss your children's progress in first grade the first quarter of the year.  With just 2 more families to meet with, I will have 100% participation for parent conferences.  Thanks so much, parents!

The children may bring a set of flash cards to school to study when they have completed their class work.  Please send the flash cards in a zip-loc bag with your child's name on the bag.  Please remember we learn facts to sums of 12.

The big Christmas program is only a month away, on December 10th at 7:00 P.M.  For the show, your child needs to have an EMPTY CHILD SIZE SHOE BOX WRAPPED IN CHRISTMAS PAPER.  Please send this wrapped box in by THIS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13.  Thanks so much.  You will LOVE the show!

Blessings of peace and joy,
Mrs. Smelter
