FAQ

What is the mission of the CEF?

The Cresskill Education Foundation was created in 1990 to increase financial resources to enrich the school experience of our town’s children.

What types of programs does the CEF fund?

A wide array of programs and initiatives ranging from technology, to the arts, to reading, writing and arithmetic, to staff development, to  building better schools.  The programs may target a specific grade or an entire school.  Please see the grants page for initiatives we have funded in the past two years.

How is the money raised?

The annual membership drive, the Concert for the Arts, the holiday appreciation certificates, the Concert 4 Kids, and this year the EARTHfest and the Circus are all ways the CEF raises money for our children.  Please see the page about Fundraising.  We are constantly on the lookout for for new fundraising ideas and sources, and welcome your input.

How is the money spent? What is the grant process?

Each year, the District (teachers and departments) submits grant proposals to the CEF Board.  The Board then meets with the school administrators and votes on overall support of the projects as well as funding levels.

What is the tax status of the CEF?

The Cresskill Education Foundation, Inc. was incorporated in the State of New Jersey in 1990. It has been designated by the United States Internal Revenue Service as a non-profit organization under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations and contributions made to the Foundation are fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by applicable law.

How many board members are there, and what do they do?

As of Fall 2008, there are 21 board members. The main goal of all our board members is fundraising for the District.  Each member participates in committee work of their choice,  and assists with the annual fundraising activities.

How does the CEF differ from the HSA or PTA?

The Parent Organizations and the CEF are two separate organizations with a similar vision: to enrich the lives of the children in Cresskill.  The HSA and PTA functions within an individual school.  The CEF operates primarily from the outside in, working together with the principals and superintendent as well as businesses, professionals and other resources to raise money and explore/implement innovative initiatives for our District.

Can I join both the CEF and the HSA or PTA?

Absolutely. Many of our members belong to both organizations.

Is it possible to volunteer my time without becoming a Board member?

Yes, by joining one of our committees and working on fundraising.  This  offers you an opportunity to gain exposure to the CEF to see whether or not you would like to become a Trustee.

Who can I contact about volunteering?

Please contact any one of our members.  Please see the CEF Board Members

page.  Or email us at cresskilleducationfoundation@yahoo.com.
