At the Brigantine Elementary School, physical fitness is top on the list of important aspects of a child's daily life. We utilize an innovative technique developed by our gym teacher, Mrs. Pomatto, in conjunction with our school nurse, Mrs. Ortolf, and administration which focuses on becoming more healthy. Additionally, our Superintendent, Dr. Robert Previti secured spin cycles several years ago for our school system. The spin cycles are used daily by children, staff and community to support physical fitness. In coordination with this theory, our cafeteria supervisor has also reevaluated the food choices for the students and now uses healthier foods and snacks. In essence, the children are feeling better about themselves because of the daily activity and healthy foods and then can be caring and kind to others! Get Yourself Moving (G.Y.M.), is a health/well being program utilized to support the individual child’s personal growth. It is a multidimensional program of health, character education, behavior modification, nutrition and exercise aimed at encouraging healthy living by defining expectations and making healthy choices. This program encourages young children to assimilate lifelong lessons, which assist them in living a healthy, positive, disease/drug-free life. The G.Y.M. program is currently partnered with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and has been incredibly successful winning multiple awards!
