This is our sight word list that we will work on throughout the entire year.  Our goal, according to the kindergarten standards, is that each child know at least 20 words by the end of kindergarten.  The words in bold letters are considered the core words.  There are ten core words.  Those are the primary focus.  We also work on high frequency words from this list that can be found in our reading series.  Some of the words on the list are also considered first grade words.  I will keep you updated as to the words introduced and the ones we are working on.  Please remember every child is unique and learns through different means and at a different pace.  Reading a word from a list doesn't always mean they know that word or that they can read it outside of the list in the context of a book.  It is important to remember that when the words are introduced, they are connected in some way.  I often use a book that has the word in it many times, followed by an activity where they write the word.  The children then have a reference point or connection for the word.  The word has meaning for them.  Review the words that we do as we go along, but remember to have fun with it.
