Fabulous February Fun!
We have reached the 90th day of school! The kids are looking forward to the 100th day of school where we will be having some 100 day fun. You will be getting a notice shortly about having your child bring in 100 small items on the 100th day where we will be counting counting counting! Some suggestions are Cheerios, m&m's, toothpicks, straws, cottonballs, buttons, pennies, or any small item you can think of. We will be making things, working on 100 piece puzzles, and taking 100 steps to see where it leads us. As of this point, disregarding anymore snow days, the 100th day will be on Tuesday, February 9th.
Also, for February, We will be sending home a class list of the children's first names so that the children can make out Valentines if they choose to. Please have the children write out their own cards using their best kindergarten writing. In addition to the card exchange we thought it would be fun to have an ice cream sundae buffet on Thursday, February 11th. We will provide what donations are needed on the class list notice.

We have finished up our shape unit and made shape pizzas. They are displayed in our glass case. We are beginning a new unit in math where we will be measuring and comparing by size and weight. We will also begin introducing the children to what estimation means. We will have a jar where the children will write down how many items they think are in the jar, count the items, then discuss our estimates.
We will also be discussing our names, how we got them, and what they mean. If you haven't sent in your description of how your child got his or her name, along with a baby picture, please send it in as soon as you can.

In science, to go along with Groundhog's Day, we will be learning about shadows and how they are made. We will be reading some books about shadows that will talk about shadows. We will also read silly shadow books. We will work with shadows through designs and puppets. You can have some fun with this at home by making shapes with your hand in front of a flashlight.
What will it be? Six more weeks of winter or an early spring?
In reading we will be focusing our word wall vocabulary words and on using our sounds to form 3 letter (CVC) words such as hat and bed. We tap out each sound with our fingers and blend the sounds together to form words. We will also be working on rhyming words and adding words to their word wall. Please keep practicing their vocabulary with their word rings.
