Florida’s Compulsory           Attendance Law

Who must attend:

Every child between the ages of 6 & 16 shall attend a public school regularly  during the entire school year, unless  otherwise enrolled in private school or home instruction approved by Lake County Public Schools. 

Duty of parent or guardian:

Each person who has under his/her   custody  a child between 6 and 16 years of age must see that the child attends school or receives instruction as        required by law.

Absences:

· All absences require a written excuse from a parent or guardian.

· After a student has exceeded the number of absences excused by a parental note, a doctor’s note is   required.       

* 10 absences for elementary & middle school  students

*5 absences for high school students.
