Book of the Month

The Book of the Month program was created to further literacy skills and encourage students to become lifelong learners. Each month, the principal, Mrs. Lein selects a book for the whole school to read. Teachers then incorporate reading, writing and problem solving activities relating to the theme of the book. Mrs. Lein also invites groups of students to share lunchtime Book Talk discussions with her. In addition, parents may visit the Freeport Memorial Library where there is a display of the featured book.

The Book of the Month program at Archer Street School has been recognized by the New York State English Council as a Program of Excellence.  The NYSEC selects programs for recognition based on their ability to enrich ELA instruction by offering creative opportunities for teachers and students.
