Spanish - Mrs. O'Brien BIENVENIDOS-WELCOME! Manners Matter!! Buenos Dias! Por favor!! Gracias!! De nada!! With the help of our puppet, Rosco, we are practicing our manners in Kindergarten. We are also working with the colors. It is fun to locate different colors in the classroom. First graders are working so hard on their Libros de Mexico (Books about Mexico). Each week we speak more about Mexican culture and traditions. Then we apply our new knowledge to our Mexico Books. We have included items like the Mexican flag and a map of the United States and Mexico. Second grade is all about the Spanish alphabet. They are doing a great job of learning this important tool. They have discovered that there are certain letters in the Spanish alphabet that we do not have in our own. Ask a 2nd grader to recite the alphabet for you. They will be happy to show off their skill. Third graders have been learning about farm animals and pets. They even voted for their favorite animal in a class election. It is no surprise that the perro (dog) won in two out of the three classes. We have also been talking about our families. We have discovered that families in Latin American countries are very much like our own families. It is all about the numbers in fourth grade. They have risen to the challenge of counting by 10's to 100. Most can do it rather quickly too! We have also been drilling the days of the week and the months of the year. We have learned to apply this knowledge to our every day conversations. Fifth graders can pray the first half of the Our Father by memory now. This is not an easy task to do! Ask a fifth grader to pray in Spanish. They would be happy to do so. Food is on the 5th graders' minds too. Soon each of them will be owning their own cafe/restaurant. They will be required to create a menu for their eating place. The sixth grade rooms are covered in post-it notes. This is due to the fact that the students have been focusing on classroom vocabulary. Their new workbooks challenge them to new and fun exercises. They will even be doing some Math, Social Studies, and Science all in the Spanish language! It will be great! Vamonos! Let's go! Vamonos! Let's go! Vamonos! Let's go! Vamonos!
