Using Micro Worlds JR

Welcome to the Computer Room web page!

I will be using this page to let parents know about the programs that their children are using during Computer Class.

The rule of the Computer Room is "RESPECT".  Students are to show respect for the equipment and for each other.

I’m looking for help with the cartridge recycling program.  If you have access to large shipping boxes (2 ½ x 2 ½ x 2 ½ ) please contact me.

Kindergarten – The students are learning how to Log on to the computers.  They have been practicing Control – Alt – Delete. Everyone has been able to Log on and open up Kid Pix.  They have used the Digital Puppets and have created beautiful art work using the drawing tools and pouring paint.

We have started using Thinkin' Things 1.  They had to follow sound patterns with Oranga and design moving pictures with the Balls.

First Grade – The students have been working with Kid Pix using the stamps and writing tools.  They have also worked with Kidspirations.

We have been working with Thinkin' Things 1.  It is a program that is stored on the server. The students have used Oranga, Balls, Fribbles, and Chickens.  the skills developed are patterning, design, catorgizing, and listening.

Second Grade – The students have used Kid Pix and printed their projects.  They have also printed their work in Kidspirations.

The students have worked with all of the parts of Thinkin' Things 1.  They have been able to save their work and visit the server room.

Third Grade – The students have started their work in word-processing.  They will do creative writing project each week and will be introduced to the various formatting tools.  The papers will be collected and they will create a booklet of all of their work at the end of the unit.

The students continue to add to their writing portfolio.  They have learned to capitalize, center text, left justify, tab, and bold text.

Fourth Grade – The students have started their work in LOGO Programming.  They are learning how to control the turtle and use the LOGO commands.

The students continue to add on to their programming skills.  They are using grid sheets to plan their projects and transfer the designs to the computer.

Fifth Grade – The students have learned how to save their work to the server and they do a keyboarding lesson each week.  Crystal Rainforest is an adventure program that uses LOGO commands.  Students progress at their own speed through the adventures.

The students have started using the Computer Room in conjuction with their other classes.  They have started a number of writing assignments.  They are writing an essay complete with bibliography for Mrs. Gilmour's class and they started a Power Point assignment for Mrs. Popp.

Sixth Grade – The students have started working in Micro Worlds EX.  It is a programming language that will allow them to create interactive multimedia projects.

The projects in Micro Worlds EX are very exciting.  Students have started to animate their scenes.  They have ghosts flying, fish swimming and people walking.  The characters have been designed by the students and the animations have become more detailed.
