Monthly Reading Logs|
Reading is an essential part of your child’s development in school and learning to read takes a lot of practice. Studies show that by reading just 15-20 minutes a day, you can help your child become a better reader. Whether your child is just beginning to learn the letter names and sounds, is reading a few sight words, or is reading books independently, reading at home will allow him/her to greatly improve their reading skills. With this in mind, I encourage every family to participate in the read aloud program.
Beginning in October and each month thereafter, a reading log will be sent home with your child. Your child is encouraged to read or listen to as many books as possible throughout the month. Please read a variety of stories and not the same ones over and over again. Each time a book is read at home by you or your child, write the title on the reading log sheet. If you run out of lines, write titles on the back of the paper.
Reading logs will be due on the 1st day of each month (or the first school day in the month). For example, October reading logs will be due November 2nd. As an incentive, all children turning in a monthly reading log will receive a Rockin’ Hawk for the month. If the child has read a book for each day in the month or more, a Pizza Hut Certificate will be given (October-May).
If you have any questions about this program, please contact me. Thank you for helping with this wonderful and exciting program.
