About Me

I grew up in Brockport (just outside Rochester), New York with my parents and sister. When I graduated, I started working towards my degree in biology from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. During my sophomore year I began an internship at the Toledo Zoo. I started in the education department and worked my way into the reptile house. There I was able to help care for a variety of snakes, lizard and amphibians. When a position opened up I transferred to the large mammal department. There I was able to care and train animals such as siberian tigers, snow leopards, sloth bears, lions, polar bears, and seals. I enjoyed BGSU so much, I decided to stay there and pursue my masters degree. My thesis involved a population study of insects. I spent countless hours counting thousands of frozen bugs. It was worth it! Our findings did turn out to be relevant and useful to local farmers. When I wasn't counting bugs, I was assigned to teach general biology. I wasn't sure how I felt about it at first, but it turned out to be a lot of fun. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I decided to become a teacher. That is how I came to be at North East Middle School. It's funny how unplanned events change your life. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy playing frisbee and doing crafts. My favorite is scrapbooking and rubber stamping. I hope you will come join me for a card or scrapbooking class at school.
