Parent Conferences

Parent conferences begin next week. Student progress reports will be given at this time, along with valuable information regarding your child's needs. This is a great time to discuss concerns and questions you may have about your child's progress. Remember 4th grade is a transition year into upper grades in elementary. They are learning valuable tools they will need over the next few years and beyond. Some of these tools are study skills, reading for information, responsibility, and independence. They still need your help, but remember to give them some responsibility too! Ways you can do this at home is by giving them daily and weekly chores.

Study Skills

Many students will still need your support when it comes to studying for tests, especially in science and social studies. They will receive at least a week's notice for upcoming tests. They will also receive a study guide and we will go over it in class together. Students will need support when it comes to studying at home. You may need to show them "how" to study. Show them how to make flashcards and work on strategies on how to memorize information. You may need to do this for a while until they get the hang of it. Eventually, you may want to allow them to do more and more on their own.  Then you may only need to review with them on as needed basis. Remember we want to support them when needed with the goal of independence in mind.
