Mrs. Christine Smith Learning Center Coordinator/Special Education Teacher This year marks my fortieth year of teaching and my thirty-first year at Christ the King. I started here in 1981 as the Junior High Science teacher. In 1990, when the restructuring of the schools took place, I became the resource/special education teacher. Prior to this, I taught nine years in Prince George's County School District in Maryland. I graduated from Westminster College in Pennsylvania with a BA in Elementary Education and received my MS in Special Education from Nazareth College. I have also done graduate work at Catholic University in Washington,D.C. and Bowie State College in Maryland. I am married and have one son who in May graduated from Lycoming College with a degree in English-Literature and Secondary Education. Currently he is pursuing a teaching position. We are parishioners at St Lawrence Parish in Greece. Collecting children's books is my passion and I enjoy scrapbooking. I am also a teddy bear lover. My son plays lacrosse and has turned our family into avid fans of the sport. Since fourth grade, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. To this day I cannot think of anything else I would rather be than a teacher. I know I have been blessed. I love children and the challenges that teaching brings each day. MISSION FOR THE CLASS I believe all children can become successful, independent learners when given the right opportunities and encouragement.
