Citizenship Expectations
At Shrine Grade School, citizenship is based on Christian fundamentals and principles, with the goal of helping students grow in personal responsibility and social concern.
1. Respect the rights and feelings of others with regard to and concern for learning, property, and safety. 2. Participate in classroom instruction. 3. Be courteous and follow directions of staff and guest teachers. 4. Settle conflicts in a nonviolent way, using problem-solving techniques.
Rewards
1. Students exhibiting good citizenship and good work habits will receive a ticket per day. It will be signed and dated. 2. The teacher saves the tickets in a large container and a raffle will take place at the end of each month.
Consequences
In order to track student adherence to the Parent/Teacher Handbook Code of Conduct, a “citizenship checklist” will be used. This checklist will be kept on a weekly basis and travel with the class throughout the week. It is used after verbal reminders have been given. Students have a clear understanding of behavioral expectations. Four checks in the same week warrant an after-school reflection time. Lack of respect, including physical and verbal abuse, as well as cheating, will warrant the automatic issue of a reflection slip. Violations of the Parent/Teacher Code of Conduct on pages 7-12 will affect the conduct grade. Please see the Shrine handbook for details.
