AR AR

Our October AR party is this week on  Thursday October 29.. The students need to have earned 8 points at 80% right answers. I will go over points between now and then in order to keep them on track. I want everyone to be able to attend. If they do not make the requirements that then they will be reading trying to join in with us later.

AR is something you may have heard your child talk about. This is a reading program that allows each child to read books at their ability level and take tests on them.  The tests are taken on the computer and the computer keeps track of the test taken and the points the student earns.

Each month we have an AR party. This is to encourage students to read, take and pass tests. Goals vary from month to month.  We keep track of points and percentages weekly so that students can adjust their reading accordingly. I keep check during the week when students are concerned about their points. I also create opportunities for students to read and get points as the month progresses.

Each month a goal is set for certain amount of points with a percentage included. Once they reach 50 points we award the students with an AR T-Shirt. Thursday is lunch with the teachers for the students who wear their AR shirts that day.
Our goal is for every student to reach 100 points by the end of the school year. At the end of the year we have a big AR bash, a carnival. Students get tickets according to their points. If they have a 100 points or more they get a VIP bracelet.

We are always looking to add to our classroom library. If you have books that your children have grown out of that you would like to donate it would greatly be appreciated. If you would like to donate money to third grade for tax credit, we use this money mostly for this program.
