Tuesday Flag Raising - We will be remembering those that fought for our country in a special flag raising ceremony. Symphony Field Trip - We will be traveling downtown to attend the Jacksonville Symphony. Students should dress nice since we will be representing Greenfield Elementary. The trip is from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. so we will be back in time for lunch. Even though today has a special start, we will be filling our afternoon with learning so it is very important your student is at school all day. Lunchbox Club - The lunchbox club students did a fantastic job completing the lunchbox activities. Thank you parents for working with your student! Today, the lunchbox club will receive a special treat with lunch! :)
Wednesday No School - Today is Veteran's Day.
Thursday Spirit Night Tonight from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Chick-Fil-A in Tinseltown. When ordering, don't forget to say that you are supporting Greenfield. Hope to see you there! Important Information for Parents Please be sure your child is at school each and every day. Since we are working for the entire day, it is also essential for your student to be on time and stay for the entire day. It is difficult for students to complete make up work and some class discussions can not be replicated. We had loads of fun last week. Be sure to check out our "Photo Gallary" tab for pictures! Monday Writer's Tea - Congratulations to Cynthia. She will be attending Writer's Tea on Monday with Mrs. Hardee, Mrs. Firment, Mr. Royal, and Mrs. Colton. At Writer's Tea, she will share her response to the Book of the Month. Riverdeep Due - Riverdeep assignment called "Fear Place" is due by midnight tonight! Remember, these assignments take a long while and we don't take any excuses - so don't wait until the last minute. Tuesday Vision Screening - We will be having our eyes checked on Tuesday. Election Day - Tuesday is also Election Day for students. Students will vote for Student Council secretary, treasurer, vise president and president.
Wednesday Early Release Day - This Wednesay is Early Release Day.
Friday Lunchbox Club - Lunchboxes are due today! Be sure to have your lunchbox activities completed and at school so that you can join us for a special lunch on Monday!! Yeah, something to look forward too!! :)
Looking ahead to next week We are headed to the Jacksonville Symphony onTuesday, November 10th. Students are repesenting Greenfield Elementary and will need to dress up for this field trip. Permission slips coming soon!! __________________________________________________________________

No School Monday- Students don't have schoo this Monday due to a Teacher Planning Day. Enjoy! Thursday- Miss Mason and Miss Paffie's wear red day!! Wear your Greenfield Shirts!!! Box Top Contest - Ends Wednesday so send in those Box Tops. We want a Pizza Party (and you want a day off from making lunch) Red Ribbon Week - We are celebrating "Say No to Drugs and Alcohol" this week. Festivities include an anti-drug seminar on Thursday and a door decorating contest. Students shoul wear their RED Greenfield T-Shirt on THURSDAY!! Fundraiser Pick Up - Be sure to pick up your fundraiser goods this Thursday! Time and place TBA. Parents Night - Greenfield is hosting a Parent Night this Thursday to inform parents about our online grading system. Be sure to be there to recieve your password. Book Character Dress-Up Day - Friday is book Character Dress-Up Day!!! Students should come to school dressed as their favorite book character. Students MUST have the book with them. *Students should NOT wear Halloween Costumes - We are celebrating book characters, not Halloween* Friday- Narratives are DUE! Make sure your student has published their Tall Tale!!! AR- AR goals are DUE Nov 20th! This is just the 1/2 way point for the second 9 weeks!! If students make their AR goals they will get a prize, lunch in the classroom and extra recess! Lots of incentive to read at home each night :) We are in for a super busy and fun week!!!! _______________________________________________________________________________ 10/18/09 AR Goals: Remember that AR goals are DUE on Tuesday, October 20th at the end of the day! Students WILL be able to take AR test on Tuesday, but must have the tests completed by 3:10 in order for it to count on this 9 weeks. Keep on Reading.
Early Release Day - Don't Forget, this Wednesday is Early Release Day!
Math Enrichment - This week only, Enrichment will be on Friday instead of Thursday. Mrs. Firment has a special assignment for the enrichment students that will help Greenfield prepare for Red Ribbon Week next week. Riverdeep: Another Riverdeep assignment was given to students last Friday (10/16). This time the Riverdeep is in the subject of reading. Students had the weekend to work on this assignment as well as the rest of the week. Remember its due on Friday 10/23!!
Pajama Day - Every student that met their AR Goal on Tuesday is invited to join us for a Pajama Party!!! Students can wear their pajamas to school and join us at lunch for a special party. :) _________________________________________________________________________________ 10/12/09
Greenfield T-Shirts - Coming home on TUESDAY!!! Can you guess the color? Check to be sure your child's shirt is the correct size. If it is not, return the shirt to Greenfield BEFORE washing or wearing. These important shirts should be worn every Friday and on all field trips. Riverdeep - You probably already know that Riverdeep is up and running :) Students have already received their first assignment called Prime and Composite Numbers. It was assigned last Thursday, October 8th and must be completed by this Thursday, October 15th by midnight. A paper was sent home in conduct folders on Friday explaining all of the Riverdeep details - keep the top but return the bottom with a signature. The top of the paper is yours to keep so that you can refer to it at any time. I need the bottom back with a signature so I know your student showed it to you. Thank you to those families that already sent in the bottom of the paper with a signature. Did you know that some students have already completed their first Riverdeep assignment?!? The students that have already finished their assignment found a KitKat on their desk this (Monday) morning :) * Don't forget - Riverdeep counts as two grades. 1) A completion grade 2) Quiz grade on the Riverdeep material
AR Goals and 7 Books - Students must meet their AR Goal and read 7 books (or 700 pages) by next Tuesday, October 20th. This is just over a week away!!! Be sure your student is staying on track with their reading. Some students have only read one or two books so far this year. They need to be reading like crazy in order to finish a total of 7 books by next Tuesday!!!!!!

Hi Families, We have a busy week ahead. Students may need help remembering all events. Also, students should have everything written in their planner. AR Goal Celebration - Those students that met half of their AR Goal will celebrate their accomplishment on Tuesday by eating lunch in the classroom, enjoying extra recess, and picking a prize off the prize cart. Way to go Readers!!! *Please note - all students will have recess. AR Goal meeters will have extra recess.* Early Release Day - Wednesday is Early Release. Car riders will be called at 1:45. Please be on time to pick up your student so that the teachers can get to their teacher meeting on time!
Fall Picture Day - Thursday is Picture Day!!!! Please make sure your student is at school and on time this day so that we have all students get their picture taken. Look for information coming home Monday and Wednesday. Greenfield Spirit Night at Chick-Fil-A - Come out and support our Greenfield Family! Spirt night will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Greenfield receives 10% of all Greenfield sales so don't forget to tell the cashier say you are with Greenfield. We can't wait to see you there!!! Hispanic Month Flag Decorating Contest- There will be a contest this week for Hispanic Heritage month. Students can creatively draw a spanish flag, use construction paper to make one, or other creative means. ALL flags should be completed by this coming Friday. If you complete the FLAG by Friday, you name will be entered into a contest for prizes!! Start working on those flags! Instead of having a Math and Science Vocabulary Parade on October 30th, we are going to hold the vocabulary parade closer to the FCAT. INSTEAD, we will have a Book Character Dress-up Day on October 30th. Be thinking of your favorite book character and develop your costume ahead of time! Box Top Contest - We currently in the middle of a school-wide Box Top Contest that ends on October 28th. First place class receives a pizza party. Saving box tops = one less lunch parents need to pack! We will be eating pizza instead!!!! :) AR GOALS DUE OCT 20th- Each student has met with Miss Mason about their "End of the 9 weeks AR GOAL" These goals are different for each student and based on the students level, interest, motivation and ability. Your student should know their personal goal and can always look in their blue folder for their goal if they forget :) Keep on reading!! If you meet your goal by Oct 20th you will get to participate in a FUN classroom celebration (still to be determined)

We have a major change in our resource schedule that will hopefully make it easier to remember our daily resources. Our schedule will be the same every week. Every week we will have: Mondays - No Resource Tuesdays - Media Wednesdays - P.E. Thursdays - Art Fridays - Music * This change is for 5th grade ONLY! Progress Reports - Progress Reports will be going home on Monday, September 28th. Parents must sign every page of the report. We know it is a lot of signatures but we want to be sure parents see all of their student's grades. Thank you for your help with this! The Metric System (Quiz Your Student) - Parents, quiz your student to see if they can tell you about the metric system. They should be able to tell you that it is based on the number 10, so you don't have to memorize a bunch of numbers. Also, you can keep the same prefix but just switch out the base word (meter, liter, or gram). * We aren't done yet, we will learn kilometer next week* Hectometer - Think "Hectometer Hike" - A hectometer is about the length of a _______. Can you fill in the blank? Dekameter - Can your student tell you the size of a dekameter? (About the width of our classroom). Meter - See if your student can hold out their arms to "Show you a Meter!" Decimeter - Ask your student to show you their new friend, Teci - the - decimeter. Parents, be sure take Teci out of your student's pocket before washing the laundry. I'm afraid someone's Teci - the - decimeter might go through the wash...hehe!! Centimeter - Do they know the size of a centimeter (The width of an eraser cap or the width of Miss Paffie's pinky finger)? Millimeter - Check to see if your student knows the size of a millimeter (The thickness of a dime or the thickness of a sprinkle).
Math and Science Vocabulary Parade - Our Math and Science Vocabulary Parade will be on Friday, October 30th. Start thinking of an idea. This event seems a long way away but will be sneaking up on us before we know it. Can you guess what Miss Paffie and Miss Mason will be?

Open House - THANK YOU for joining us at our very successful Open House. We appreciate your support as we prepare for middle school. Any parents that were unable to attend should check for a letter sent home explaining all of our rituals and routines. Please keep the letter but return the bottom of the last page. We look forward to an awesome year ahead!!! :) Fundraiser - Remember to sell, sell, sell! PTA provides so much to our students at Greenfield and this fundraiser provides the funds. There will be a drawing on Greenfield Elementary Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. To enter the drawing, students must return their strip of paper with a parent signature. Students may enter the drawing up to 3 times. Once for selling 1-5 items. A second time for selling 6-10 times. And, a third time for selling 11-15 items. The grand prize drawing is on Friday! Fundraiswer packets are due THIS Friday, September 25th. Orders Due - Friday, September 25th Checks Payable - Greenfield Elementary Pick Up Orders - Thursday, October 29th Benchmark Testing - Most students are done. Fundraiser - We had our schoolwide fundraiser kick off last Thursday. This fundraiser is the PTA's main source for funds all year! Please support the school by allowing your child to bring the catalog to church, extra-curricular activities, etc. There are tons of prizes to give away this year! There will be drawings for prizes almost every morning on Good Morning Greenfield. To enter the drawing, students must return their strip of paper with a parent signature. Students may enter the drawing up to 3 times. Once for selling 1-5 items. A second time for selling 6-10 times. And, a third time for selling 11-15 items. The fundraiser will continue until the end of next week. Fundraiswer packets are due on Friday, September 25th. The grand prize drawing will be on this day!! There will be a wealth of information about what your child will learn, how they are graded, and general expectations for 5th grade. Fifth grade is very important as we prepare for middle school. Field Trip - We had a blast on our field trip to the Marine Science Center. We learned about marine life and the importance of caring for our ocean. Resource; Early Release Day - Car riders are dismissed at 1:30 Thursday - Art Resource; Fundraiser Kick Off Friday - Field Trip to the Marine Science Center Field Trip Information: Students should wear last year's Greenfield T-Shirt or another teal shirt so that we can easily spot our students. Also, students need to bring a packed lunch. No lunchboxes or tupperware please. We must be able to throw away ALL leftovers. It is best to use a paper bag or Publix bag that can be thrown away after lunch. Students can bring money for souvenirs or soft drinks. There is also a Milk Jug Decorating Contest! Students will use a milk jug with a cut opening to collect sea shells on the beach. The student with the best decorated milk jug will win a prize! Thank you all very much for reviewing and returning last week's Conduct Folders promptly. These folders will be sent home every Friday and should be returned with a guardian signature the next school day. This will be a consistent way to check up on your child's conduct throughout the year! This Thursday marks the beginning of our school-wide fundraiser sponsored by our wonderful PTA!
