October 7, 2008 3:36 PM Students do not have any homework tonight :) This should give them a chance to work on their Riverdeep assignments and play some math games on the website. Today, Miss Mason's homeroom had an opportunity to work on laptops to play many of the math games on our website. Now that they know the rules to these games, they should be playing them before and after school and at home. Also, students are bringing home a letter to you explaining the Riverdeep assignments. Please sign and return the bottom of the letter. Thank you for all of your help!! October 6, 2008 3:53 PM We began working on Riverdeep today! * A link for Riverdeep can be found under my MATH Helpful Links. * Riverdeep CAN be assessed from home! :) * Students have their login names and passwords stapled in their planners. * Students have been given a demonstration on how to use Riverdeep. * Students have assignments and due dates for these assignments. Assignments MUST be completed by the due date. * Students may come in before school (at 8:00 am) to complete their assignments, if needed. * When the student thinks they have completed an assignment, the student should check that the assignment is placed in the Completed tab. * Completing these assignments is your student's responsibility. They are given adequate notice to complete assignments. Students must make wise use of their time to get these assignments done. * Due to these assignments taking a while, students should not wait until the day before the assignment is due to start the assignment. They might run out of time to complete the assignment. * If you have a special situation that does not allow your student to complete Riverdeep, please let me know BEFORE the assignment is due so that I can find time for your student to complete the assignment at school. * New assignments can be found on the class website under both the Homework section and the Calendar section. Students currently have two Riverdeep assignments. 1) Whole Numbers to One Million - Due October 14th 2) Order and Round Whole Numbers - Due October 22nd.

This letter explains many of the routines and expectations I have for the students this year. Although much of this information was discussed at Open House, there is some information in the letter I forgot to discuss. Please read the letter and return the detached piece to school with your student tomorrow. FYI - The county has changed some of our calendar days. Please make these changes to your calendar. Make-Up Days for Hurricane Fay: Nov. 10th Dec. 18th Dec. 19th Switch of Teacher Planning Day The teacher planning day originally scheduled for October 20th has been changed to October 24th. September 2, 2008 4:25 PM I hope everyone had a nice break. We're busy picking up where we left off last week. Most students remembered to get their Conduct Folder signed by a parent and return it to school today, however several students did forget. Please, ask your student if they returned their conduct folder. Many parents want to know how they can help their student. By the time a child reaches 5th grade, the child should have already mastered their multiplication tables. Unfortunately, this does not always happen. We're going to be working hard throughout the year to master our multiplication tables before the students reach middle school. Please practice with your student. This simple skill will help your student master harder skills throughout their mathematical life. I have also included a game in my Educational Games section that has multiplication table flashcards :) August 29, 2008 2:49 PM Miss Paffie's students are bringing home Conduct Folders. These folders should be signed and returned to school Tuesday (since we do not have school Monday). Miss Mason's class does not have Conduct Folders this week. They will begin bringing home Conduct Folders next week. August 28, 2008 8:17 PM Dear Families, Thank you so much for attending our Open House tonight. It was great to see so many of you involved in your child's education. Miss Mason and I believe strongly in working collaboratively with you so that you child can be the best that they can be. We're very excited for this year and look forward to talking to you again.
